Mitsuko is a poignant opera in progress that delves into the remarkable life of Lady Mitsuko Aoyama, wife to Count Heinrich von Coudenhove-Kalergi. Set against the backdrop of cultural fusion and familial duty, the opera explores Mitsuko’s journey as she navigates the intricacies of Western and Eastern cultures while raising seven children, including her son Richard, who later founded the Pan European Union.
Composer Miran Tsalikian’s evocative score breathes life into Mitsuko’s story, capturing the emotional depth and cultural richness of her experiences. Tsalikian’s music weaves together elements from both Eastern and Western traditions, reflecting Mitsuko’s internal struggle and ultimate reconciliation.
Hiroaki Hirai’s libretto provides a lyrical narrative that guides the audience through Mitsuko’s trials and triumphs. Through eloquent prose and poignant dialogue, Hirai brings Mitsuko’s world to vivid life, highlighting the universal themes of love, identity, and resilience that resonate across cultures and generations.
